How the car donation process works
Start your Memphis Metro car donation
Begin by telling Rides for Pride about the vehicle you want to donate, whether it is a car, truck, van, SUV, or other eligible vehicle. You do not need to be in perfect-condition territory to help; many donated vehicles are picked up and sold as part of the charitable process. Donors throughout the Memphis Metro, including Midtown, East Memphis, Whitehaven, Raleigh, Collierville, Germantown, Bartlett, Cordova, Millington, and West Memphis, can request free towing. The goal is to make donating simple, respectful, and convenient while directing the charitable value to Heritage for the Blind, EIN 58-2164446.
Schedule free pickup at a convenient location
After your donation is submitted, pickup is arranged at no cost to you. The vehicle can often be collected from your home, workplace, apartment complex, repair shop, or another accessible location in the Memphis area. A local towing provider will coordinate timing and provide basic pickup instructions, so you know what to expect before they arrive. This free tow is designed to remove the common barriers that keep donors from giving, especially when a vehicle is not running, has sat unused, or would be expensive to move on your own.
Your vehicle is sold to create charitable proceeds
Once the vehicle is picked up, it is processed for sale. The sale price depends on factors such as condition, mileage, age, market demand, and whether the vehicle runs. Rides for Pride does not promise a specific sale amount because every vehicle is different and market results vary. What matters for mission-minded donors is where the proceeds go. 100-percent of vehicle sale proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 58-2164446, to support services for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Proceeds help fund Heritage for the Blind services
Heritage for the Blind uses vehicle proceeds to help support services for blind and visually impaired Americans. A major part of that support is connecting individuals with assistance programs and benefit information that can be difficult to navigate alone. These may include SSI, SSDI, LIHEAP, Section 8, Medicare Extra Help, Medicaid, and other resources that support health, housing, utilities, and financial stability. Receive the tax paperwork you need
Heritage for the Blind is a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 58-2164446, so donations may be tax deductible for donors who itemize deductions. For vehicles that sell for more than $500, the deduction is generally based on the gross vehicle sale price, and donors receive IRS Form 1098-C for tax records. You should keep your acknowledgment and consult a tax professional if you have questions about your personal return. Rides for Pride aims to make the paperwork clear, so you can feel confident about both the mission impact and the donation process.
